Deva Schubert is a dancer, choreographer, and performance artist. Her interdisciplinary practice centers on the voice, exploring intimacy, collectivity, and the intersections of body, space, technology, and sound.

Working between dance, sound, visual art, and digital media, she creates performative and installative settings where voice, body, and digital artifacts resonate together, oscillating between intimacy, publicness, and disruption. She activates the voice as a tool of resistance to normative control, opening space for collective resonance and subtle protest.

Her performance Glitch Choir translates the phenomenon of glitch into the analog realm, reconstructing a lament through vocal distortion. Referencing the historical figure of the professional mourner—traditionally women who expressed grief in public—the piece stages a collective body of mourning. Through sonic dissonance, grief is transformed into a shared glitch, raising the question: what kind of choir emerges from these fractured frequencies?

Glitch Choir won the 2024 ImPulsTanz Young Choreographers’ Award and has been presented at venues including mumok, Vienna, Berlinische Galerie, Antistatic Festival Sofia, SYSTEMA Marseille, and Sophiensäle, Berlin.
