
Abdullah Miniawy (*1994, Egypt) is an expressionist artist, writer, singer, composer, and actor. Over the years, he has performed with acclaimed musicians such as Erik Truffaz, Kamilya Jubran, Yom, Médéric Collignon, Aly Talibab, A Filetta, Ziur, Simo Cell and many more. His voice has echoed on prestigious stages worldwide—from Festival d’Avignon, ICA London, Haus der Kunst in Munich, Mao Asian Museum in Turin, to the Louvre in Paris.
As a composer, he has created soundtracks for theater, dance and exhibitions, including Wael Shawki’s Cabaret Crusade III at MoMA PS1, Kirsten Dehlholm’s AMDUAT at Hotel Pro Forma, and Jilani Saadi’s Insurrection. Since 2016, he has collaborated with German trio Carl Gari, merging poetic lyrics with avant-garde electronic soundscapes. Their debut Darraje was named one of NPR’s Top 50 Albums of 2016, while their latest release The Act of Falling from the 8th Floor was praised by Pitchfork, The Quietus, and Wire Magazine.
Most recently, his album Le Cri Du Caire with Erik Truffaz won the Les Victoires du Jazz 2023—the French equivalent of the Grammy Awards.
Abdullah was chosen by the European Parliament as a changemaker at the European Youth Event 2021, offering an artist’s perspective on contemporary challenges. As a writer, his lyrics have left a mark in the Middle East region, notably during the Arab Spring, where they were displayed in places like the Yarmouk camp in Syria.
